Chewable Vitamins?

Recommended Posts

Do you have to take chewable forever? With any chewables I see a lot have sugar (5-6 g). Is this ok or do we need sugar free?

I found chewable multis and Calcium. Not sure if B12 comes that way.

Thanks!!!

For me it's chewable forever or until I can tolerate capsules. The tablets don't break up well in our stomach, gummies aren't "complete" Vitamins, and B12 are usually sublingual. The big catch with the capsules I've found is quantity. 6 capsules in a serving and my nut requires 2 Vitamin servings a say. 12 freaking capsules. Yeesh. I'll probably alternate 6 caps, and 1 chewable a day as I can't STAND the taste of chewables.

They DO make sf Vitamins, you just have to look harder. The soft chews can be super high in sugar.

You can email if you want, I just got a list of ok vitamins from my nut yesterday. Good luck!

I'm taking a chewable multi for bariatric WLS patients so I'm sure it's OK. I don't think there's an issue with a LITTLE sugar - there is natural sugar in fruit, etc. The problem, as I understand it, is really with excessive added sugar.

Most surgeon's seem to recommend a sublingual B12 (dissolves under the tongue) since our stomachs can't properly absorb B12 otherwise. There are 2 forms of B12; the Methylcobalamin form is supposed to be better absorbed. Ask your surgeon what strength you should get based on your blood work.

Consider taking Biotin as well. It hasn't been proven, but many think it helps with new hair growth following the thinning most of us will (or have) experienced at about 3-4 months post-surgery. Some say Iron helps as well, but I would only take Iron supplements with the OK of either your surgeon or PCP based on your blood work.

I get all of my supplements at the Vitamin Shoppe (they have retail stores or you can order on-line). I love having one place for everything. They have a really good calcium citrate - Healthy Indulgence. It's like eating a piece of dark chocolate. I have also tried (and like) Calcet chewables and Bariatric Advantage Chewy's (the are like caramels) - you can order both of these on-line from various places.

And yes, plan on taking a multi, Calcium, B12, and possibly Vitamin D (most people in the US are deficient) for the rest of your life. With our tiny stomachs, we just can't eat enough to provide all of the nutrients we need. Eventually you will be able to take a tablet form of some of these (I take a gel cap for my Vitamin D and Omega 3's already) My calcium chewables are my dessert after lunch and after dinner now - wow how life changes with a sleeve! Be aware that a chewable multi may be best forever since many of the pill forms just don't dissolve well (Centrum is known to be particularly bad).

Another random thought- dont take Iron and calcium citrate together. They just cancel each other out. Take them at different times :)

I haven't been sleeved yet but my husband had the Gastric bypass 10 years ago and he cannot take capsules, he says they feel like they get stuck or sit in his stomach forever. Ive been thinking for myself I need to get some info from everyone here and find chewable ones. I didn't know they made sugar free, I am a diabetic so I will defiantly check into that.

Biggest perk about WLS? Say goodbye to your diabetes :) and has your husband tried Bariatric specific capsules?

I was told soon after I found out I was Diabetic that my pancreas no longer worked and would be in Insulin forever :{ But the Drs told me all sorts of stuff that didn't end up being true, so I am really hoping that this is bad info too. I would LOVE to not have to stick my self with needles several times a day.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
