I was sleeved September 19 in Mexico and ended up in emergency in Saskatoon (Canada) on October 8 with high fever, weak, passing out, not being able to eat or drink much. Was a small leak but I was in the hospital for 17 days, on major antibiotics, no food or liquids going into my stomach and strictly being fed & hydrated through a PICC line. Did numerous tests during my stay to check if the leak was healing. It closed partially and then a week later we did another test only to find out it didn't close any further. Docs said there was nothing more they could do for me so they got me eating, sent me home and said they hoped it would close the rest of the way on its own. If I have symptoms again, just go back and they'll admit me back into the hospital. So far I feel great. I pray every day that it stays this way!!

If you don't mind me asking who was your doctor in MX? If you want you can PM me the answer. I am only wondering because I am going to MX in Jan for surgery. Just wondering how it was handled and if you have had any follow up from the Surgeon even if just through phone calls email or whatever. Would like to hear your in put if you feel comfortable sharing. Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread!!!!

My doc in Puerto Vallarta is Dr. Castaneda. He is amazing and messaged with me almost daily for my entire hospital stay plus for the first week and a half after I was home. He was not happy with the way the doctors here in Canada handled my leak. He had suggestions on how they could help me further but they weren't willing. If I could have gone back to Mexico for leak treatment, I'm confident Dr. Castaneda would have gone above and beyond, but with the leak being detected so late, it just wasn't an option. I would 100% recommend Dr. Castaneda to anyone who is getting the sleeve. Canadian doctors and hospitals can't compare, in my opinion.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
