First Day Back To Work!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 2 weeks ago to the day. I'm back at the office for the first time today, and I feel great! My first time back in work shoes... I walked 3 blocks downtown, and I've been thinking all over the office since 6am...my feet don't hurt AT ALL! AAAAAAAAAHH! Even if I never lose another ounce (which I know I will), my surgery was worth it if JUST for this. It feels so good to get my life back. Just thinking of all the things that used to being me joy, and how I'll be able to get to do them more has me bursting with joy. I suffered with Lupus and RA (steroids...) and to get even a portion of the weight off made a hell of a difference. Yay! Sleeves! LOL! :D

Good for you!!! I have RA also. Was sleeved on 8/21 and have been off my RA meds (enbrel) since 8/10. I just went in yesterday to get my sed rate & RA factor checked. For some fantastic reason this surgery has put me in remission!! And that's amazing because i'm labeled as 'severe RA.' Had both knees replaced when I was in my early 40's and w/o enbrel i would have been bedridden.

Congrats & I hope the sleeve does miracles for you as it has for me!

Congratulations, DoxieVille! Remission is a fantastic place to be. I was concerned about the healing process because of my wacky immune system. It's been smooth sailing. I'm not sure if it is from the elimination of certain foods or what. I had no idea it could be like this.

I THINK it has a lot to with my food intake now. No 'white foods' or starches. Keeping my carbs between 10-20 grams a day makes a huge difference. I honestly am now thinking that it contributed to my inflammation. After surgery I started to add more carbs, albeit good carbs. Well, not only did I totally stall out, i started to ache & get puffy again! It took me a week to get myself off the carbs and i've felt great ever since. So there is some connection.

I've got a total of 5 auto-immune diseases so I'll prob have to go back on Enbrel eventually, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts!!

Good luck!

Well, you know they travel in packs! I have lupus (primary), and 3 other auto-immune "friends". My doctor says to stay on the Plaquenil no matter how great I start to feel.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
