You don't realize when it 's bring put it because your still asleep. It feels weird, s little uncomfortable at times. Coming out it feel like pressure, but it only takes 4/5 to take out. it's not fun, but not excruciating either

Thank you George. I was assured the catheter would be removed before I woke up in recovery. (shutters).

I know this is a guys topic...but I woke up from surgery with a catheter in. I didn't have one when I was in the operating room when I was still conscious and I don't know exactly when they put it in but it wasn't painful. Just a little irritating when I walked around because it felt like I needed to pee. It came out the night before I was discharged and that wasn't painful either just a little uncomfortable

My surgery was done at Kaiser and my surgeon told me they wouldn't use one unless I was having trouble urinating after surgery. Needless to say, I was up within an hour of surgery and headed to the bathroom.

Same here, I have Kaiser Colorado and they didn't use one.

I would suggest you request they don't use one. They can always put one in later if you are having trouble. I asked them not to use one before they told me they don't usually do them for that surgery because of the short duration.

And I was definitely having some trouble squeezing it out at the same rate as before surgery, but I had plenty of time on my hands and good reasons to not mind getting up quite a bit if I needed to.

Good luck.

I had nothing inserted into Mr. Happy. I must have gotten lucky.

I didn't even know I was getting one. Like chris said, it's not bad. Just a weird feeling when coming out. Going in I was still asleep. I believe it's at the dr's discretion. They wanna protect your bladder from overflowing and having urine flush back in to your kidneys.

I've only heard of a couple of cases where "Mr Happy" actually developed a severe infection and shriveled up and fell off within the last week so I am quite sure you'll be fine :P

Muhahhahahahahahahhahha (Sorry but I just couldn't resist)

I was in the same situation. No cath but had an hr. deadline to take a leak or one was going in. I got up that minute, took a few laps, then stood in the bathroom with a serious mission!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
