Now that I have my sleeve, I guess I won't be able to do a foody trip around Europe :( like I've always wanted.

Au contraire, mon frere!!! Wait until you have lost all the weight you want to lose and are well on your way in maintenance. Your capacity will have increased a bit at this point, so you have to be careful, but you CAN enjoy "normal" meals. Just much smaller. I've had some very delicious food recently, and had to give half of it to my husband, but that works out (he's skinny already;) ) You can INDEED enjoy a food trip. It will just take you longer.

Don't they server much smaller portions out there anyway? (depending on the country...)

People have linked true food enjoyment with pigging out and stuffing the stomach to bursting. With the sleeve you realize that food is even more enjoyable in smaller amounts with a varied selection.

Small portions in Europe? You must be joking!! Canapés and tapas are the way forward for dining with a sleeve.

That's a very good point, I honestly never thought of that! It's more for the taste then to over eat! Thank you!!!!! I guess I must now begin to save for my trip !

Very shortly after WLS - One lady on the board, blogged weekly about her excursions, vacation throughout europe with her DH

really, it was amazing - she was out of the country for one year, country to country, eating properly all over the world!!!! - OMG - didn't gain weight, lost about 100 lbs to goal!!!

More power to her

Ya, I used to make fun of those tiny, ultra-expensive portions the big chefs on the food Channel dished up. Now they look about right. I guess I'm getting classy. B)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
