melinda48 37 Posted November 6, 2012 I am on the phase two (lasts 5 weeks after operation) diet for the gastric sleeve. I can have creamed Soup, oatmeal, malt o meal, Jello etc..I am curious as to why I can't have cooked egg whites or cottage cheese. The consistency of oatmeal flakes is much rougher (or even malt o meal) than an egg white that has the consistency of jello, or cottage cheese. Is there a particular reason for this because I could sure use the Protein.< /span> I don't want to hurt/stretch etc.. my stomach but I am just wondering why other soft foods like cottage cheese and egg whites aren't on the list. They contain protein and I don't see how they could damage your stomach if something as coarse as oatmeal or malt o meal won't damage it, if the reason for leaving it off is based solely on consistency . Unless there's some other reason for excluding them. Does anyone know? 1 senickisncis reacted to this
dwbrown1978 26 Posted November 6, 2012 hmmm... unfortunately I don't know the answer to that. It would appear as if our post-op phase 2 diets are different. On my phase 2, I cannot have oatmeal (too rough). I can have malt-o-meal, cream of wheat and/or cream of rice (thinned out with Water or milk). BUT I can also have cottage cheese, cream cheese and 2 egg whites or 1 whole egg, scrambled, or even a poached egg (soft). Not sure why everybody seems to have a different diet though. Maybe you can call your nutritionist or surgeon's office and ask if you can start implementing those foods? 1 senickisncis reacted to this
melinda48 37 Posted November 6, 2012 The nurse said no but didn't really give me a clear answer....AND when I first saw the oatmeal I was surprised and even called and asked if it needed to be blended (yuck) and they said no. So I'm about to start eating eggs! 1 senickisncis reacted to this
Strangefruit 179 Posted November 6, 2012 This forum hurts and helps at the same time! I am 2.5 weeks out - still on Protein and Soup and just read the post of someone 7 days out told to start scrambled eggs! Apparently each doctor has their own thing... There is nothing consistent except the surgery! 1 senickisncis reacted to this
