Hey PRE Banders 2

Recommended Posts

Yes Tia, I have to do the diet for the insurance company. It's just amazing to me that they make us go through this. Do they think we want to be obese, that we haven't ever dieted before?!!! So, my doc has me see a nutritionist weekly (of course the insurance company doesn't cover that!) and the doc once a month for six months!

Maybe the insurance companies hope we lose enough so that we then don't qualify for insurance! A catch 22!

I currently Do not have health insurance and I am in the process of getting it. Since we are self employed we have to get private health insurance. Ok ...private health insuracne WONT Cover WLS, its 3Xs as much as group insurance and the covereage is WORSE. The policy we are getting becasue fo the price and it actually has pretty good coverage... They wont me to have my OWN Policy , its cheaper that way . Ya know why ? Because im OBSESE . Like you said they wont pay for a dietitian , WLS , Hell even a gym membership .. BUT they WILL PAY For a Tummy Tuck and a boob job if i can prove its a health issue ( Which I WILL LOL) MY Policy is $160 a month, my husband and 2 boys policy combined is $220 ! GO Figure. it is a catch 22 . and a MONEY ploy on their part. I have keep Wt off for a YR to lower my premium . Its ALL ABOUT MONEY

Hey Coltonwade,

Have you checked into Capital One's medical financing center? My insurance company (United Healthcare MAMSI) demanded that I attend a six month physician assisted diet program before they'd consider approval. That was after having gone back and forward with them for 4 months – just not fair. At that rate, it would have been nearly a year before I could be on the road to recovery. I’d seen pamphlets for Capital One’s program many times in the lobby of WLSC, but never gave it much thought. Finally one day through frustration, I picked up a pamphlet and read it. Their rates start as low as 1.9% APR, and go up to 7.9% fixed APR for 60 months. The cost of my surgery is $16,250. Capital One is financing the whole thing for only about $325 per month. I plan to pay it off much sooner, but it sure feels good to know that I will be on my way to recovery before Thanksgiving.

Congratulations to everyone! I will be banded tomorrow morning; 10/17/06, around 09:15. Please keep me in your prayers, and I’ll see you on the loosing sideJ.

Darrell…

I think that this weekend I was more aware of how much food was going down my throat, than ever before. I am aware of everything I eat. I also noticed how much I eat; even when I'm not hungry. And I'm thinking either I'm going to go through the "Last Supper Syndrome", or loose weight before banding, b/c I'm just disgusted with myself. If I think of my stomach in terms of being a 'gas tank' just for fuel for my body...I should realize I don't need 1/2 of what I eat - probably more.

Wow, I'm excited for the band.

Now...lets eat! j/k!

Tia....

ALL GOOD THINGS TO THOSE WHO WAIT! I don't even have my surgery consult until 11/16! But that doesn't mean I'm going to be mad at every that is 'standing in my way'!!! Be positive; look at this time of waiting as your chance to get yourself educated on your pending surgery, how your eating habits will be forced to change. Look toward the future!!! :)

T... Two weeks is nothing... (though it may feel like eternity ) My surgeon required that we attend his seminar before we could even get an appt. sooo between waiting to go to the seminar and waiting to go to the consult, I was out like 2 darn months. He really had me calling him names :kev: LOL.

Definatly take this time to read the boards and become familiar with people's accomplishments and setbacks... This is excellent knowledge. You cant really predict you outcome based on someone else's as we are all different, but it definately enlighens you as to what you should and should not be doing. Also, go out to obesityhelp.com. I LOVE reading the profile... I was actually addicted when I first encountered that site. Please put alot of blood sweat and tears on there. Its just awesome!!

I am rooting for ya girl and we will both be banded in no-time!!!

Darrell, CONGRATS to you . I hope things go well. I did call Capital one and a few other places. Our problem is a catch 22. We have the money to make the payments, our credit score is fine ( now) but we have a chapter 7 bankcurpcy discharged on our record from this yr. SO im stuck.

I THOUGHT my parents were going to cosign for me, I even started cleaning houses to "Show" My parents " Look this money is 3 monthly payments for a loan" and because they dont exactly agree with the choice they have not exactly said anything else about it since I asked them so i took that as a no and im just goign to wait until December when our business has a big job payout and I can do it then.

So we'll see. Hope your surgery goes well tomorow good luck

Mindy

I will say this though, If you feel like your docs office does not care about you or is not concerend, that you are just a number you may want to rethink your choice of surgeons. There is NO WAY I could go to a doc that treated me like a # and not a person. I have worked for docs offices for 10 yrs and even though they are busy and your right your not the only person, you CAN Be treated with RESPECT and kindness , if you do not feel like your getting that and its important to you to feel that way ... Well you mightw ant to rethink things with that office. How are things goign to be if you have a concern ?I have not even SEEN my surgeon yet and I have his email that HE PERSONALLY responds to , I can email him and he will respond within 24 hours with an answer, Others who see him speak to him on the phone frequently . You do not leave the hospital with out His cell phone and Home Phone number. Those things are important to me . If they are important to you you need to make sure you can get them from your surgeon.

Just my input

Mindy

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
