True hunger feels like knawing in the pit of my stomach, empty, hollow, deprived, and the time between meals matches the feeling I should be having, uncomfortable and ready for nutrition.

Head hunger feels like a temporary craving, a quick fix to a feeling. The head hunger can be for a specific taste or texture and may follow a nutritious meal by only an hour. If I ignore the pangs or have a beverage, the feeling passes, whereas with real hunger it gets more and more uncomfortable.
