ShrinkyDinkMe22 376 Posted November 6, 2012 I just had my nut class and she mentioned what Vitamins we can take. She gave us a list of 4 brands and what to buy. My question to her was do we have to take those exact vitamins for the rest of our lives or in 6 months to a year post op csn we go back to what we used to take before surgery? She didn't really answer my question other than saying we sleeves need to take vitamins forever... So my question for you all... How long do we use for example the Bariatric Advantage vitamins? JustSkinnyMeInside 89 Posted November 6, 2012 It is my understanding that we will take Vitamins for the rest of our life. chewables are more readily absorbed but i dont know if u have to have chewables. I prefer to have chewables. I took Bariatric Advantage with no problems preop. Postop however makes me gag and wanna get sick. So i need to find another Vitamin. I liked Bariatric Advantage because they have so many Vitamins. But just the thought of them makes me queasy....maybe i will try flintstones complete. Does anyone else have any suggestions? I try to find one without a bunch of added sugars (like the Gummy ones have).

melinda48 37 Posted November 6, 2012 I bought Adora Calcium supplement. Its a round chocolate disc about the size of a quarter and its not bad at all. I have 2 a day (500mg) a piece. I bought Vitamin Shoppe B-12 1000mg Methylcobalamin (read that if you get B12 get the one that says it has Methylcobalamin not Cyanocobalamin). I bought both of these at the Vitamin Shoppe. Here's the article about the B12. It's a very interesting article. http://www.naturalnews.com/032766_cyanocobalamin_vitamin_B-12.html
4ALongerLife 329 Posted November 6, 2012 Ok IDK what "a bunch of added sugars" is exactly, so with that being said here's the ones that I take.... citrical Calcium gummies (2 a day, from walmart) they have 7g of sugar/7g of carbs, 30 calories for two. They taste like a candy almost so yeah, I like them lol. Then I take chewable spectravite mutlivitamins with Iron, 2 a day from cvs, 10 calories, 2 g carbs, 200% of iron/vit a and vit c. Some places sell Bariatric Advantage and I hear they are expensive. They aren't the only thing you can take, but yes, you have to take Vitamins as I understand it for life. I also take B12 once a week (my dr. gives his patients a free bottle, will do us for a year) then I also take Biotin as a supplement. I'll have to look up the info you posted on b12's that I got from my dr. to ensure it's the "right" kind of Vitamin. I still have much to learn, obviously! Thanks for the thread - hope that helps you!
Fiddleman 4,376 Posted November 6, 2012 Stay away from the Bariatric Advantage chews. Nothing to se here. Move along. Seriously, the BA tablets gave me the heaves every single time. Then I switched to Celebrate Multivitamin because I heard some good things about the capsules. Gave me the heaves also. Now I am taking a trader joe high potency Multivitamin tablet. Two actually to meet the WLS requirements. They taste good, are 5 calories and I no longer heave. Works or me! 2 Need-a-Sleeve and Bukki reacted to this

I had the gummies but my doctor said I couldn't use them because the hard Gelatin takes a long time to dissolve in the stomach So I gave all the gummie Vitamins I already bought to my daughter and had to buy more. suejersey 263 Posted November 6, 2012 The flintstones are GROSS. I couldn't take them anymore. I don't know how parents can get their kids to take them. I went back to my prior Vitamin but it messed with my pouch so I have to find something new. Need to talk to my NUT about it.
kyllfalcon 768 Posted November 6, 2012 I take chewable gummies and all my Vitamin tests consistently come back fine. I asked last checkup how long I must or should take all these supplements, and the answer was "for as long as you want to feel as good as you do now". Nuff said. ShrinkyDinkMe22 376 Posted November 7, 2012 Thanks all. I understand that we need Vitamins forever just wasn't sure if they had to be chewable. Will definitely ask at my next appointment
