Hey...

I'm scheduled for 11/14 in Mexico. I return home on 11/19 (sat) and planning to work that Monday. I'm just curious to see if other educators were able to return successfully that quickly? I'm thinking about taking that Monday off and working tues & wed...Thoughts???

Hey there, I got my surgery over the summer break so I had five weeks to recover, with that being said I feel like I could have gone back after two weeks. Ideally you would want to plan the surgery over Christmas Break, Spring Break or Summer break to minimize sick days used!

I am 7 days post op although we all heal differently I am not ready each day gets better I feel that the ananestia is completely gone not much gas no nausea but I know I am not 100%. Still trying to figure out my new tummy what temperature of Water goes down better cold room temperature etc. Scares are healing some soreness. I tell u a lot of changes, I think if u can take time off do so. According to my doc it takes three weeks b4 everything is out of your system and weight really starts coming off. He also said there is a 7 day window for blood clots. Listen to your body. Good luck I go see my doc on Wednesday hopefully I will b released to drive.

I am a retired teacher. My doctor suggested taking two weeks off of work because you need to be drinking constantly to get in all your fluids. I was also really tired at first.

Hi,

Are you sure you've got those dates right? I'm getting sleeved in Mexico on Nov. 19th and that is a Monday. I;ll fly home on Nov. 23 (Friday) and return to work on Monday. This will be during my Thanksgiving break. If I feel that I need a couple of more days, I'll call my principal and tell her I had to have surgery over the break and won't be able to come in unitl midweek.

Hi. I'm not a teacher, however, I think that's way too soon for you to return!! You're still going to have incision pains not to mention being very tired. I assume you're on your feet most of the day. I was sleeved 10/15 and it was at least a week and a half where I wasn't woozy not to mention that's how long the pain took to be somewhat tolerable. You need to give your body time to heal. I'm going back to work on Wednesday and that makes me having been out for 3 1/2 weeks and I'm still not back 100%. Beyond the physical healing from the actual surgery, there are other things that need to settle down. Some people have bathroom issues the first few weeks...some bad gas pains...some holding anything down. I'm learning that all the classes, support groups, readings, research, etc. I did before the surgery didn't even come close to some if what I'm dealing with now.

Please listen to your body. It will have gone thru a major trauma and needs time to acclimate to your new stomach.

3 weeks is probably he average amount of time to get better after surgery enough to make it through the day. I took 2 weeks off, but it took until about 4 weeks when my energy really returned. Incision pain took 3 weeks to mostly go away.

You'll need 2-3 weeks. Even though I wasn't in pain I was exhausted. I'm a teacher too.

My date is wed 11/14

I fly nome on sun 11/18

And return to my classroom on 11/20. We have a short week due to thanksgiving so I'm only working tues and wed. I'm going to get a sub for those days and plan to return on the 26th. Thanks for your feedback!!!!

Yes, I'm going to take a few more days to recover. Middle school teacher plus exhaustion is a horrible combination. It would be silent reading and worksheets all day lol

Teacher here,my work would not let me come back until the Dr said I could lift over 10 pounds. 6 weeks! They have since made a place for people to come back to work in a recovery phase....2-3 weeks. I was very ready to get back to work at about 4 weeks.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
