This risk of complications are very small. And hopefully you will have an experience similar to mine. I had absolutely zero pain after surgery. I was up and walking around a few hours afterwards and could have went home that night if they would have let me.

Try not to worry too much! These people who will be taking care of you are pros and will do everything they can to make your experience as smooth and pain free as possible!

It's normal and healthy to be worried about both.

Don't know if you've ever had surgery or not, so don't know what your benchmark of pain is. I've had lots, and this was one of the very easiest as far as pain and discomfort. Maybe my tubal ligation a hundred years ago was easier, but that would be the only one of my ten surgeries easier than this. It may not have been so for everyone else though.

Most of us are very worried about complications too. I surely was. I finally realized the complications of obesity were very likely, almost certain, to happen to me, and that outweighted the lesser risk of the surgery. No regrets.

Yep, it is scary! But what is more scary is spending the rest of your life fighting with your weight and thinking you have failed!

You will be uncomfortable for a while, but you can do this. I was sleeved in April and have lost 68 pounds so far. It is so much fun to shop for clothes now! I was a size 18-20 Women, and now can wear a size 10 jeans from the Gap. It is amazing.

The health care providers will be certain that you are comfy- don't be afraid to ask for pain meds. You CAN do this. Be brave!.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
