What Are The Imporant Things Needed After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I know my taste's will change so I'm not stocking up on Protein powders, I will be ordering samples from as many of the places I have seen listed on here and I think I should order some unflavored Protein powder from what I have read it will get used a lot. Just need to figure out which to get. Also if there is a difference between unflavored and natural flavor.

I am on a budget and would like to start now (so I don't have a huge out flow of money all at once) in getting things that will be important for me to have after surgery , like the right Vitamins, kitchen tools, best protein shaker bottles, will I need gas x or antacids (ive never had heart burn before) or anything else you all can think of that you needed, wanted and used after surgery.

Thanks in advance for your help and info :}

This would be MY list, Walmart brand Omeprazole (Prilosec) , I loved G2 (gator aid), Soups that you like creamy (NO chunks) I blended some but didn't like any that had rice, noodles..etc blended., Blender Bottle. That is what it is called is the best blender bottle I have found that works great. I chose foods that had Protein with the stages, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, fish..etc I don't care for Protein Shakes at all. I can't even eat Protein Bars (taste like pressed sawdust to me) I used Gas X, I was cold often also so I loved my heating pad also helped if I was achy, Vitamins talk to you dr I was taking them before surgery so I just continued with what I bought.

Some of what you'll need will depend on your postop diet plan. But, some generic suggestions:

unjury unflavored Protein powder & chicken Soup

Sugarfree popsicles, Jello, pudding

G2

Crystal light or Mio

Herbal tea

Broths

shaker bottle-doesn't need to be expensive, but with wire whisk.

Again, follow your postop plan or ask now for it so you can get a better idea of what you'll need. Best of Luck to you!

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
