4 Months Out - Barley Can Eat 2 Oz...

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved in July, I am 4 months out. I can barley get 2 ounces of Protein in at a time (things like grilled chicken and meat sometimes is only 1 oz).

I can not eat more than that in a sitting (and stay full for quite a while). I was told by my NUT that I should be able to get in 4 ounces of food in at each meal. I cant!

Made some beef vegetable Soup tonight - could get in 4 ounces of that (1/2 cup). I can eat a 4 or 6 ounce yogurt with no problems.

Is this normal? Is it the denseness of the meat that makes it difficult? Will I always have to rely on Protein Shakes?

The denser the Protein the less it takes to fill you up! I was sleeved 7/30 and I can only take in 2-2.5 oz of dense protein. The nurse for my program said that was fine. I still do a shake per day as one of my two Snacks. It also depends on the type of dense protein your having, i.e., fish, shellfish, chicken, pork, beef, etc..

I guess it would make sence that the denser the Protein the less you may need. I was afraid that I was "too tight." Thanks for your imput, it does help! :)

Seems normal in my place :) I usually do one or one and a half. I'm 5 1/2 months out. I'm enjoying it so far. I had surgery to restrict, so I'm taking advantage if the golden period! 103 lbs gone for good! 99 since surgery.

I have the same problem. I can't even get in one scrambled egg. I my doctor told me that was normal. I eat so little of my tuna fish and meatball. I was worried about my Protein intake so I drink milk in the morning and I have 40z of a Protein Shake at night.

I was sleeved in July and can do 3-5 oz of a solid protein like chicken. Any more and I get the stuck feeling, slimes or both.

Thanks all for the input. I was thinking I was too tight but it seems like I am within the "normal" range.

i am still pre-op but i plan to use shakes the rest of my life for convenience - so much easier than cooking. of course, not every meal, but maybe one meal a day. i'm tired of sweet-tasting shakes. but they are certainly convenient.

I'm grieving over my tiny sleeve, too! 5 weeks post op and I can't eat an entire egg and chicken gives me the stuck feeling! I need at least one shake daily to get my Protein in. I miss chewing crunchy foods andsalads, but I'm afraid of how I'll feel afterwards! If tuna and shredded chicken feel bad, can't imagine bread or even crackers! Take care!
