Hi. This forum is very unorganized, so pardon my netiquette if I'm posting out of compliance. I just had my VSG on 10/31/12 via Kaiser. I was released from the hospital on 11/1. The only major pain I dealt with during my stay was the hospital bed's lack of back support. I really don't know if I'm an unusual case or not, but I am a bit concerned as I really don't feel like I had anything done to me. Of course I can't chug down Water, but I can sip an 8oz Protein Shake in 10 minutes or less without discomfort. I get hungry often. I even wanted to eat the day after my surgery. I finished the supplied bowl of hospital broth in almost no time. Yesterday, I introduced yogurt to my diet, and it has helped relieve the "gurgley: gas in my bowels. Last night, I even went to a concert. I have virtually no discomfort. I did this chime in not to brag, but to address my concerns of this procedure being a possible mistake. Please chime in! About me: My name is Andy. I am 45. 5'10", 305 lbs. (lost 28 lbs prior to surgery)

Hi Andy. Here is my advise: I had my revision on September 10th. I had a lapband removed and the sleeve done. I already had a head start on eating small portions, knowing when I am full excetera. I suggest that you slow down when consuming anything. Some don't feel full until they are on the pureed stage. Measure and weigh all of your food. Eat from small bowls with small utensils and put in small amounts at a time. Think of what your stomach has gone through major trauma. Even though you CAN do XYZ you really shouldn't. Good Luck

thank you! I am aware that I shouldn't eat more than required. I just though it was weird that so soon, I have no discomfort.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
