My Sleeve Journey

Recommended Posts

Good Morning everyone. As I approach my 1 year anniversary of my sleeve surgery I thought it would be great to share my story.

I began my journey in February 2011 when I went to a Drs appointment and finally got on the scale, I had refused many times before.

That scale read 327lbs!!!! I really wanted to cry.

I then went next door and joined weight watchers. Did that for a few months and then started researching surgery. And had not heard of gastric sleeve, had been really searching bypass.

In July I went to an information session and decided sleeve was for me.

I went through the programs, groups and classes, and lost the 24lbs I needed to have my surgery. On Dec 8th 2011 I had my sleeve surgery. For the first 3 days I cried..."what did I do" but after that it has been an awesome journey! Today I can say " I have no regrets" I now why 178 lbs I still want to loose 25 or so more. I can shop in the regular stores, I can climb the 4 flights of stairs at work! I am very happy to have shared my journey! Good luck to all!!!!

Lilymay... that is awesome!.. Congrats on your success.

Kim, I was sleeved 2 1/2 weeks ago. For me the first 3 days was not bad. Some pain but the drugs helped..lol. I had NO regrets at all! I still don't because I know in the long run I will be much healthier and happy.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
