Opps! Too Much Food!?

Recommended Posts

So I've been doing so good with food nothing bothers me, last night I took one bite too much im guessing and it got stuck in my throat lower area. Had to throw up .... Tonight at dinner same thing chicken was going down nicely then one more bite. Got stuck! Had to throw up. I'm 6 weeks out and can't figure out how much I can hold yet, any suggestions on how to find out or how much we can hold, I know everyone is different but some kind of gauge would be nice! Thanks y'all!

3 ounces of food is a good guideline. As you get further out, like you are, maybe 4-5 ounces would be a good measure. I do not know as I am at 4 months and still get along fine with 3 ounces of solid Protein.

best thing to do is to measure your food! saved my life. I am not sure what your NUT suggested for you, but at six weeks mine was 2-3 oz. I got me a very good scale at Walmart and still weigh my food to this day. I am five months post-op.

Sorry, i misread 6 weeks as 6 months. At 6 weeks I was just starting to eat solids. It was somewhere between 1-2 ounces. Between 1-3 months I was still dealing with the stuck feeling leading to slimes and throwing up. After 3 months, my sleeve could deal with 3 ounces no problem and sometimes 4 ounces. I stick with 3 ounces because I do not need any more to keep satisfied throughout the day.

Thanks guys! I will start small w 2-3 oz and go from there! This is harder than I thought in my head :) but so glad I did it!

I've figured out I can handle 4oz liquids or 2oz solids at a time. I have a hard time eyeballing it when I'm out. Might have to get one of those "drug dealer" scales hidden inside a cd case to carry with me.

I was able to eat about 3/4-1 oz of lean Protein at 6 weeks. 1 oz was really pushing it. Measure before you eat, and start small!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
