15lbs till goal and i'm totally blowing it

Recommended Posts

I am so close to goal for the first time in my life...yet i've started eating horribly! Almost as if i'm sabatoging myself, or perhaps have just gotten too comfortable with my current weight. Bleh! What do you do when you want to kick yourself back into gear?

Hey Malice!

First you forgive yourself and go ahead and acknowledge the uncomfortableness of actually being in the new life you have been dreaming about. I remember a friend years back who with terrific effort dropped 35 or 40 lbs and was totally unprepared for getting a lot of interested male attention. She had worn that fat as an armour and protection against people getting too close. When she got down to the desired weight, there was a period of time where she had to come to grips with the new her and work through her fear of having the success she so deeply desired.

Another thing to consider is that if you make it to goal weight, the game is over. No more big end result that all of your energy goes toward accomplishing. That sounds to me like time to get a new BIG GOAL in your life. This time it won't be weight that is the challenge -- it will be the new thing. How can you step out into life? What's the thing you want to be or do, but you've always said, "I can't do that because I am fat and.......?"

Keep looking and it's OK to be uncomfortable -- just remember that you have learned other things to do with big emotions besides eat. You'll get back on track pretty soon.

Best wishes,

Jo Ann

Me too lately. Although I think its just my body telling me it needs a chance to catch up. Its like I lose a bit and then eat more and stay where I am for a while and all of a sudden it keeps going again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
