Most of you figured out I have dogs. Long hair dachshunds to be exact. 3 reds, 2 blondes. Here's the latest pic of the blondes:

Well, having dogs means shedding. Usually only 2x a year. Fall is one of those times, so they are shedding. I am also a blonde. And at almost 3 months post-op, i have now joined my dogs in shedding. Woozers!! What a mess!!! I go see my hairdressers next fri and I'm def going to cut it short. Question is, who will stop shedding first? Me or the dogs?? ;-)

This terrifies me more than loose skin. I've been trying to grow my hair out, but apparently that won't be happening. :( what exactly about the surgery/weightloss causes the Hair loss ?

hair loss can be from anesthesia, mal-nourishment, and/or trauma to the body. Nutrients are used for major organ functions first so the hair suffers. I'm already planning to get a wig. Try to embrace this. If you are really worried, get a wig now and start wearing it once in awhile. Then when you really need it, people won't be so shocked.

I'm thinking of getting my hair cut short and going wavy/curly. I figure that way the bald spots won't show as much.

Yep! I sure have been. From what I understand, Biotin helps w regrowth, not Hair loss. And I only was lacking Protein for 5 days post op. So, I did everything right!!

Doxies are so unique. Wire hairs are usually totally clowns! I prefer the LH's 'mostly' mellower personalities.

Hi guys. 6 months post op here and FINALLY stopped losing my hair. Biotin, silica etc did nothing to stop the loss BUT I see about 1 inch of new growth...so it will help with regrowth I suppose. I can feel thickness near my scalp, but it's sparse at the ends from the loss. I mean giant handfuls falling out daily. I'd say I lost 1/2 my hair by the thickness of my ponytail.

A lot of people talk about Biotin, but add silica too from bamboo supplements. I didn't see the regrowth until I added the silica.

Hang in there. Just like yor energy...it can come back.

Biosil is available and a bit pricey...I use it butit am not be for everyone. Alternately, you can google bamboo supplements or go to amazon...there are plenty of generic choices. Let me know how it goes.

I've heard people on here talk about biosil. What is it? A Shampoo or supplement?

May I ask what brand of bamboo supplement you use? I'd rather get a brand that someone has tried. Thanks!!

Sure. Biosil is a supplement that I bought on Amazon. From what I can tell...it is mainly silica anyway. I taKe SOLARAY bamboo 300mg. I don't work for Biosil or SOLARAY so please take my reco with a grain of salt and buy whatwever makes you comfortable.

Thanks Slim! And I agree! I asked for the names. Don't NOBODY jump all over us. We aren't endorsing any products and we don't make any money off of these products. :-)

Personally, for me, I LIKE to know exactly what is working for someone else. Am i going to jump all over Slim if it doesn't work? Of course not!!

:-)

Sorry to hear of the hairloss, it's natural for anyone who looses a lot of weight through limited diet. It will stop eventually.

I love the pics of the dogs. We had two long haired Dachshunds that we had to have put down this last summer. I still miss them terribly.

Awww...Rootman, i'm sorry to hear about your doxies. Both at the same time? That's rough. My heart goes out to you.

We volunteer for a doxie rescue group and always have a house full of them. I really think that they are such a unique breed. Stubborn as the day is long, but such wonderful and fearless little dogs. I rehab the ones who have been traumatized by puppy mills and it's so rewarding to see when their trust in humanity comes back.

Thanks for the reassurance on the hair loss. It's a weird feeling, that's for sure!

I almost lost my doxie last month. She isn't even two yet, but apparently has immune mediated thrombocytopenia. She had zero clotting factor and starting bruising everywhere and bleeding from every orfice. One amazing vet, 2 weeks hospitalization, and a couple thousand dollars later and she's in remission.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
