I agree with OTR. I too narrowed it down, and came to the same selections of surgeons. I went with DrAceves because I did want my hand held. :D I travelled alone and really wanted to feel that I was safe and secure. Not to say that the others aren't safe, I just felt Dr Aceves was the best for me. Also, sine I live in Vegas, Dr Aceves was a one-hour flight compared to Dr Alvarez, who is closer to the Texas border.

I chose Aceves and had a wonderful experience. I'd recommend him, his hospital, and his staff to anyone who is considering surgery in MX but is nervous. You'll feel safe & as comfortable as you can be.

I used Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras. He is located just across the border from Eagle Pass, TX. He is a really great surgeon. Endobariatrics.com is where you find his info. He is in a hospital, does only 3 surgeries max each day and has a really good staff.

I'm with Dr Rodriguez in Mexico 11/23. He's 6800. Beliteweight.com arranges it. I chose him because he's done over 10,000 surgeries and quite well know in the field. I spoke with recent patient , who is also a nurse.

I'm excited. He is more than otters but you cannot put a price on this.

Dr. Jaime Ponce de Leon, in Tijuana, Mexico!

His Patient Coordinator is Trish. She and he are the super team :-). Dr. Ponce is renowned in Mexico, and taught a lot of the other doctors mentioned. Trish was the main factor to build the trust. You won't regret this choice.

Dr. Ponce is $5500. ($500 more for very high BMI or Lapland revision.)

I'm Day 4 Post OP, feel great! I posted more detail at www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/57620-looking-to-do-the-sleeve-in-Mexico/page__gopid__550636#entry550636

I had surgery in Tijuana Mexico and my doctor was Dr. Fernando Garcia. I paid $4700. It was cheap, he was good, the place was clean. If that's all that matters than this is the place.

However: I was sent home with NO pain meds which would have saved me from the following four days of absolute torture. By the time I found out I should have been prescribed pain meds I was already over it.

I was also sent home with NO Vitamins or even SUGGESTIONS of which ones I should or shouldn't buy.

Maybe asking your Mexican doctor if he/she provides these VERY NEEDFUL things will prevent you going thru what I had to go thru.

Dr Almanza in TJ Mexico on May 15, down 98lbs since surgery. 102 since preop.

My surgery was 4500 and I also had my gall ladder removed as a precaution (which I suggest to EVERY one having wls) and it was only 800 more.

I will be back at Jerusalem Clinic for my mommy makeover as soon as I lose the last 30 lbs!

I had my sleeve done on Oct. 30th with Dr. Garcia in Tijuana, MX. alma, Rosie and Melissa (the care coorindators) were amazing and so friendly and compassionate! I paid $4700 for everything. 2 nights in hospital and 3 nights in the Lovely Mariott Hotel. Samuel who was our driver that picked us up in San Diego was hilarious and so friendly!

I would highly reccomend Dr. Garcia... he definitely knows what he is doing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
