Yep, I Overdid It... Lesson Learned!

Recommended Posts

So I was moved to purees Tuesday and this morning had a cpl bites of my sons eggs and some corned beef hash. That was cool. At lunch nibbled down 3 shrimp and the bottom of a very soft crab rangoon. That was ok too. The mistake came with eating the other 3 pieces of shrimp too soon... PAIN! Never again!

Also, hubby brought home ribs for dinner so I took them off the bone and put them in the chopper with a lil bbq sauce..... Nope too soon for beef also. I sure learned alot today!!!!! Smh! And it cost me a great deal of discomfort!

Through a lot of trial and error I've found that 2-2.5 ounces is my limit. I have to weigh everything out because I can't eyeball it yet.

I'm on soft foods now and I've learned that depending on what I'm eating, I can only eat between 2 and 4 ounces of food. At first I didn't have a food scale but I bought one it helps a lot. If I eat seafood, I can eat more, but something dense like chicken, I can only eat 2 oz. or less, more like 1oz. The texture of chicken is still tough to me so I've been sticking with Tilapia, shrimp, salmon and those go down really well, but I have to make sure I eat really slow and chew well. Beef was hard for me to digest, I'm afraid to touch it because it gave me stomach issues before surgery. I still have slip ups here and there where if I don't chew good enough it will hurt going down or too big of bite will do it too, this is still a learning process for me too, we will get it though this though! :)

I have the "heart attack" pain every time I eat. I have always been in a hurry , eat and run and just can't force myself to slow down. I eat then sit and hold my chest for about 5 min. Horrible feeling. I've noticed its worse when I sit in the recliner and eat at night with my husband. The chair allows my back to bow out causing my stomach area to be more scrunched up. If I'm sitting up with good posture it doesn't seem to be as bad but still hurts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
