Hi everyone,

Just wanting to get my name out here and try and make some friends with people whom are pre and post surgery..I start my six month diet on Monday and I am a little bit scared to say the least. Not sure how I will go from 3 meals a day to just one and 2 Protein shakes and lots of Water lol. Anyone with any advice would be very helpful and I look forward to getting to know some of you.

Hello, and welcome. I am a bit new here myself. The 6 month diet is not bad, mine just ended at the end of September and I get my surgery date on the 16th of this month! 6 months seems like a long time, but trust me it usually goes by quick, and weirdly for me, I was thankful for the 6 month diet because it taught me a lot before all the other pre surgical steps. It also was an easier way (for me) to learn to give up carbinated drinks, which now Im completely off of them, and no cravings for them.

If you want to talk more about it with me, or just be weight loss buddies send me a message :) Good luck with your diet! Just remember it will be worth it, and you can do it!!

For your 6month diet they are already starting you on 2 protien shakes a day with one meal? That's usually reserved for 2-4 wks prior to surgery to shrink the liver. I am on month 5 of my 6 month mandatory medical diet ( which I habnt.lost much of anything). Good luck to you.

Yeah it is 2 Protein Shakes and one Protein meal a day. I wonder why he is already wanting me to start this 6 month diet if its not really necessary. He also wants me to exercise in moderation which that isn't a problem.

Twista what kind of Protein Shakes did you do. I am having a hard time choking down chocolate whey protein...it is so nasty lol

The best ones I have found so far (I am still trying out new flavors) are

the Isopure protien shakes, Muscle Milk Light (Strawberry Banana)...if you like the taste of banana. And Syntha Phase Cookies and Cream are my favorites so far :) I know what you mean with chocolate protien shakes, I had a very hard time drinking those, try other flavors besides chocolate and vanilla, I am sure you will find one you like.

Next I am getting a tropical punch protien drink, not sure how it will be, but it is definatly something different.

Hey y'all! I am about 10 months post op. I did go through the 6 month supervised diet but my doctor never actually put me on a diet. I did manage to lose 13 pounds in the two months leading up to my surgery. I did voluntarily start cutting things out of my diet leading up to the surgery to make the post op phase easier on myself. I weaned myself away from the only thing that I really drank -- sweet tea with lemon (which I still miss sometimes, lol). I don't think the doctors expect you to be perfect but just try to remember the ultimate goal - to make the surgery and the post op phase easier on yourself. I wish you an amazing experience these next few months!

peace and love!

I am just so scared to mess something up because i am a medical card patient and I dont want them to denie me the surgery. It is just going to be really hard to me to cut from 3-4 meals a day to just one and a couple of nasty shakes.< /p>

Jwaller, I'm a newbie too. Luckily for me, my doc isn't going to put me on a liquid diet (*sigh* of relief) but I am going on a cal restriction until my surgery on the 8th of January.

I don't mind the premier chocolate shake--you can get little predone packs at costco. I'm not going to lie, they they aren't fantastic but I can manage them. I haven't tried the vanilla yet. But a girl can't make it on chocolate and vanilla alone long term so, I'm looking for good Protein shake options myself.

Good luck to you!

Woobs, I am not sure why they are making me do this diet anyways. Its really kinda dumb if you ask me! But i guess they are doing what they know to do.

I dont have a surgery date yet I go back to my doc in december so we will see what happens there.

Thanks and Good luck to you as well

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
