Cheated On Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

So I'm on a high Protein, low carb pre op diet. I've lost close to 20 lbs in the last month.. but I'm 11 days from my surgery and I cheated... I'm really worried, because my doc said if my liver is too large he will not operate. Help please.......

I don't think that cheating just one time will hurt you but I would definitely try to stay strong and follow through with the diet so that your surgery will go smoother and without complications. I wish you the best of luck through this. I was just sleeved on Monday and I can tell you that I too had a very hard time on the pre op diet but I managed and everything went well for me and I feel wonderful today. Stay strong, you will get through this :)

get right back on your plan! one cheat will not ruin you, but it is important that you get right back on the

plan and don't let it turn into a free for all.

my friends think this is so easy. have surgery, lose the weight, no work at all. the preop is so difficult for me. I too cheated 10 days out. I am hoping the fear I feel about the surgery being called off keeps me on track. I am in a panic that I will fail.

You have come this far! You can do it! I cheated on the day before my surgery and had a piece of bacon... I thought it would't be a huge deal, since it was Protein, AND it was my birthday! The doc could SEE the bacon in my stomach during the surgery and was angry. I got the surgery, but the doc let me know he was not pleased. Hang in there!

Wow. I thought the reason for not eating after midnight was so everything would be empty.

I ate the bacon in the morning... The reason for not eating after midnight is for the anesthesia.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
