Finally! Getting My Surgery Date The 16Th! Advice?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am new to this site.

My insurance just accepted me finally after 2 years of trying! I am finally getting the official date of my surgery on the 16th of this month, they said my surgery will most likely be in the middle of December! Oh, I can't wait! I don't have much support from my friends, but my family completely supports me, and that is good enough for me.

Any advice on getting more prepared for surgery during this next month for me? Besides the pre op diet/excercising? Also maybe looking for a sleeve buddy that might be having their surgery around the time of mine :). Thanks for all of your help!

Look to join a group in your area because it is proven that those who have a support group after surgery lose more weight.

Read all you can, most people here have good intentions and only want to help you through your journey. So take what you read with the idea that a lot on here is people's opinion. Success stories are a great place to go. Research on the internet outside of VST. Pay close attention to how people eat just after surgery and ask a lot of questions of your surgeon and NUT. Different doctor's perform VSG differently.

Best wishes and congrats on your upcoming surgery date.

Just got my approval yesterday. Last consult with my surgeon is on Tuesday. Hoping for surgery on the 20th this month. I'm so nervous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
