Hi everyone-

I'm new to this whole journey and have been browsing this site for a couple weeks now. I went to my first seminar last night and plan on going to one more to make sure I make an informed decision that I'm comfortable with. My insurance requires me to have 6 months of consecutive visits to my primary care doctor in order to qualify for the surgery. I've had 2 months of visits so far, only 4 more to go. I would like to lose about 100-125 lbs and see this as good opportunity at this point in my life. I'm 36 years old and I don't really have any health issues other than being grossly overweight (BMI of over 40). I'd like to try this before I get to the point where I have a lot of health issues and am hoping to gain a handle of my life and on my eating issues. I have 2 small children (ages 2 and 4) and am nervous about the surgery as well as how my life will change after the surgery. I'm excited about the possibilities but also very nervous how I'll manage this with 2 small children around. Just wanted to introduce myself and let you know that I'll be around and checking in throughout this next phase of my life!

Welcome! I am fairly new to this site too. I am scheduled for surgery on November 12th (pending approval from Aetna). I have two kids (2 and 11). The biggest problem I see is that I can't lift the youngest for 2-3 weeks.

I am new as well and my surgery date is December 10th. I am in the same boat that you are in as far as not having any serious health issues. That is what almost prevented me from going through with the surgery. I had to rethink that decision because just because I donthave the issues now doesntmean that they will not develop. I think that it is something that will enhance my life and I owe it to my kids to be able to be there for them 100%

welcome, I am pending surgery in Dec. I started out my 6 month program 100% sure I was not going to have any surgery and here I am. I am just

so ready to not have weight be this issue for me. Glad your going to the seminars I found them really informative.

Hey there! I'm preop too. I'm a little older and I don't have any kids but similar bmi and situation. I have a couple of health issues but my weight is the big problem--I don't believe that's going to be the case forever though. As I told my doctor I'm terrified of the surgery but I'm even more frightened of "the bill coming due" from carrying this much extra weight. I don't want to wait until I'm backed into a corner either. So after careful consideration I decided surgery is for me.

Good luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
