I am planning to get banded beginning of Jan and I will be traveling to Egypt on the 24th of Feb. Does anyone see any problems with this ? How long after the surgery will I have to wait for a fill, and how long will it take for me to get used to it for travel purposes ?

Hi

I was banded Sept 22 and my first fill is Oct 30 and my second Nov 13 and third Dec 5

That was at TLBC and I was given these dates the day of my surgery.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

I thought that fills were a good distant apart of each other. How do they determine when you get them? I am planning to go to the same clinic, and I am from out of town. That will be lots of traveling for me. I do go to Toronto every three months, but flights are expensive.

How are you feeling ? How was the day after the surgery ? Were you mobile ?

The times for my fills were just like Lila's.

However...I have heard people say that their surgeon advised having all the saline removed from their band before flying. Not sure of the reasoning, but you need to ask your surgeon about it in advance. If that is the case, you probably will just want to wait til you return to get your fill.

How long will you be in Egypt for Yasmina?

TLBC gives the first fill 6 weeks (almost to the date) of your surgery day.

But....I would not recommend (nor I'm sure neither would they) that you get a fill right before you leave....ie. in case something goes wrong and you have no recourse while away (ie. you are too tight).

If you aren't in Egypt for a long time, I would suggest waiting and getting your first fill when you return. Unless you have your surgery in early Jan and then your first fill in early Feb....giving you some time to get used to it before you depart.

Well, I do not have at date as of yet, but I am hopeing for the first week of Jan. I will be back in Toronto on the last weekend of Jan

I will be in Egypt from Feb 24 - March 20th. I wonder how that will work for me, as I will have to fly in for fills, and stay the weekend. I am from Thunder bay and no one does fills here.

Hmmm... I would wait until you get back from Egypt to get your first fill.

I don't know where your nearest airport is, but I imagine you'll be going through Toronto at some point on your way back from Egypt.

Maybe you could even schedule it so that you could get it when you get into Toronto after returning from Egypt, you could get a fill, stay in TO for a couple days, and then continue on home.

I don't think those dates for getting fills are set in stone, they probably book them ahead of time so you have them if you need them. You don't have to get a fill if you don't need one, but I guess its nice to have the dates in case you do.

I live a couple of hours west of you. I am feeling good. I had my surgery on a Friday. Flew into toronto on Thurs. and flew back to Thunder Bay on Sunday. I bought my ticket for my first fill before my surgery! There was a seat sale 89.00 one way Westjet.

Hello,

I flew 3 days after my surgery and usually fly the next day after a fill. But it might be smart to stay an extra day or two before flying to Egypt. I went to Cuba the day afetr a fill for three weeks and was not able to hold down to much food. I PB a couple of times. So take your time after a fill before going on a vacation for a few weeks. The first fill to me did not give me any restriction at all. But there is a proper process for fill and I hope your doctor follows the proper protocol from the manufacturer...a little fill at a time.....

Yasmina.....follow the Dr's recommendation re. the fill once you tell him about your Egypt dates.

But....if it were me and knowing what I know now, I would wait and get my first fill after coming back....it would only be an additional 4 weeks or so of a wait.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
