Hey All!

Since I was told to stay away from Pasta ( I haven't even tried it and don't want to) I wanted to know if there were any sleeve friendly Pasta alternatives? I use cauliflower for rice and I love it, but am seeing if there is an alternative for pasta.. or if there is a pasta out there that this friendly for us :) Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Try spaghetti squash. Cut it in half and clean out the seeds. Then place face down on a cookie sheet and bake untill soft .

Then use a fork and pull the spaghetti strings out. Very tasty with sauce, or just salt and pepper. Enjoy!

Yes, you can use Shirataki noodles. They are in the refrigerated section. They are shaped like Pasta, but they are made out of yam root and soy. Very low in calories and very low in carbs. They are also gluten free.

I use thin sliced sauteed zucchini in place of Pasta. I use this mandolin slicer set on 3: http://www.amazon.com/Kyocera-CSN-202-RD-Adjustable-Mandoline-Slicer/dp/B000HZBXOA

dreamfield Pasta agrees with my sleeve.

also, if you want something that you can NOT tell is NOT Pasta, and is totally fantastic, here is a link to my favorite thing in the world. i have actually served these at parties and been told that it was some really good pasta!

The dreamfield works for me too however only a few bites- I love spaghetti squash for any linguini dish or spaghetti dish and of course zucchini or eggplant in place of lasagna type layered dishes- There is also this oriental fermented thing in the salad area I dont know what it's called several people have told me that if you rinse them really good that they are a great alternative- sort of bean sprouty but I couldnt get over the fermentation smell...sorry...

I tried them when I did the 17 day diet. there were 2 kinds of pastas. one was in the tofu/asian section and the other was in the gluten free section of the grocery store. Fair warning on both that I tried. While they taste fine after you rinse and cook them, the smell leaves OH SO MUCH to be desired. I cant' really name the smell but i'd like to say it was almost fishy? Once they're cooked and rinsed it's fine. but i didn't forget the smell.

Still you can eat the whole back for like 80 calories.

There is also a quinoa Pasta that might be a good alternative:

I haven't tried it but plan to this weekend.

Let us know how it turned out!

You can use cauliflower for a rice substitute or even as a pizza crust. For the rice you just shred it up uncooked, I made shrimp egg fried rice with it. I just sautaued it up with veggies and added the egg and shrimp.. tastes really good and I am normally not a fan of cauliflower. You can google all kinds of recipes :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
