I have a quick question, how many carbs are you allowed pre-op and post-op. I started my two week diet on Tuesday and I am afraid I am taking in too many carbs when I add the Protein Shake to lite soy milk. Does anyone know the number of carbs you are allowed each day? I am scared I am screwing up already!

Ask your nut!

My doc told me 90 grams of Protein per day and half of my Protein intake can be carbs. So if I have 90 grams of protein, I can have 45 carbs. 100 grams of protein and I can have 50 carbs, so on so forth.

But yeah, check with your doc specifically. Everyone is different.

Sweetie

all NUTS give different responses to questions

check w/NUT :)

pre-op carbs???

Post Op - My NUT says no more than 40 carbs a day - I try and follow - sometimes i go over though. i have read other sleevers take in as little as 20 carbs :o

but...........listen to YOUR NUT only - she is the one working directly with and for you. true also with your surgeon

You are down 35 lbs - good for you

good luck

take care

If you can avoid adding your shake to the soy milk, consider doing so...if you need it for taste I would go ahead.

It is hard to asnswer your question, since I don't know how many carbs you are having overall.

I could go as low as 10 carbs a day on the pre op diet. Hard, but worth it - however, felt pretty good after a few days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
