Hardest Part...

Recommended Posts

I do so well during the day on my shakes and Water only..then I go home and have to cook for the kids....cooking for them and not being able to eat it is soooo hard...

My date is november 5....and I am down 15 lbs from this preop diet....not too much longer!

What is your hardest part of the day?

I agree. When the kids are away at school it's pretty easy. With my pre-op diet, I get one little meal a day. After eating that, it's hard to turn it all off. I'd love to eat the rest of the night! I've been doing 3 shakes and a meal for over a month now.

Weekends are excruciating! Everyone is home. Teenaged boys making numerous trips to the fridge- ugh!

But our big stomachs will be gone soon!

Having the surgery and eating afterwards will be the easy part - because this pre-op liquid crap is nuts to handle! I would kill to be able to eat a small sensible meal per day! I'm expected to have nothing but 5 shakes per day and water! No popsiciles, SF Jello or fat free broth! nothing - really? I have been bitching about this since I started on Monday - I have to get my head around this whole process and soon - focus focus focus :)

There isnt really a hard time anymore - now it is a relief that I am no longer controlled by an obsession with food. Feels good to be free ;)

Before surgery I would say anytime i tried to do the all liquid thing - what a nightmare and I feel for the folks who have to do weeks of shakes for their pre-op, its torture. For my pre-op my doc has his patients do Atkins induction - hellooo chicken breasts and cheese lol - wasnt so bad.

I have the shakes...sugar free Jello..pops...and broth...it amazes me how different the pre op diets are...

The pre-op diet is very hard. I do two Protein Shakes a day and one low fat, low carb dinner. The dinner does help some. I am really hungry tonight but can't eat anymore today. Guess an early bedtime is in store for me tonight. It's very hard tonight. I don't understand all of the different diets either. I have to do it for two weeks but many others don't do it as long. I'm ready to get to surgery day.

Mine is two weeks as well....I know its for the greater good but I am so ready for real food! Or for this hunger to go away. Hang in there! We can do this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
