Treadmills

Recommended Posts

Who has one, and would you recommend it?

I have an elliptical, but it hasn't seen much use. I have been using a treadmill at the gym, and have really enjoyed it. Planning on selling the elliptical and buying a treadmill (not enough room for both).

I would like to start a C25K program soon...and am looking for a good lasting treadmill for a beginner runner.

If your gym has a stairstepper, try that. It becomes a love hate relationship. The calorie burn and muscle toning cannot be matched. If I was to own one piece of equipment, this is it. The treadmill has a higher impact on your joints than the elliptical so take that into consideration. Good luck.

The 1 thing about a treadmill is that you can always run or walk outside. You can not duplicate the elliptical in the same manner. Plus in the beginning treadmills can be fun. Once you build up some stamina treadmills get really boring, as opposed to running outside.

This is true. But with ellipticals...you just get 1 motion. With a treadmill you can walk, jog, run, walk/run on an incline, use hand weights while walking, etc.

Also, I live in Houston - so weather is HUGE factor on having indoor fitness equipment for me. There are about 3-4 months out of the entire year that I would be able to walk/jog outside without becoming a huge puddle of sweat. Just walking to the mail box a couple of houses down in the summer is AWFUL. The humidity is too much for me, and so for me, running outside is not really feasible for a huge chunk of the year.

I have a gym membership and use it - I can use the ellipticals and stair climbers there. I work with a personal trainer 3 times a week. I want to have something at home that I can use on my "off" days. And the elliptical just wasn't cutting it for me anymore. Plus my husband hates it, and prefers treadmills. So that way we can both use it.

Just goes to show how different we are. I to live in Houston and I love to run outside.

I also use my handweights on the elliptical all the time. I vary speed, resistance and incline to change it up. Plus I go backwards sometimes.

That being said, I wish I had room for a treadmill too.

Im from the DFW area, but have been down here since 2001. I'm still not used to the humidity. I'm hoping when I get down to my ideal weight, that my sweating will get better. I've lost 57 pounds so far...have about another 60 or so to loose.

I friggin hate the humidity. I still sweat but it doesnt bother me as much now that I've lost the weight.

"Play-Dry" clothing makes a nice difference around here.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
