Have You Had This Happen With Your Band?

Recommended Posts

Hi YALL!!! Just a few question I am being revised from band to sleeve in November. I have had issues but nothing crazy until as of late. I dont want to eat for one because I usually get stuck so meat especially if its dry is a no go, fruit dont think about it. Most of the time Im eating eggs and drinking milk but havent even been doing that. I now get this kind of gurgling in my band when I eat and I dont know what that is, and depending on how i sit or sleep my band will hurts. I also stopped smoking for the surgery way in advance but now I have like this salt taste in my mouth and the back of my throat and I dont know what that is either. If anybody has any possible answers for any of this please let me know what your experience is or was and what it was attributed too slip, erosin etc.

Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing from yall!

My band slipped sometime at the end of september and I had it converted to a sleeve yesterday. So far so good.

Has your band been emptied/unfilled? If not, I would be wondering because I think it is standard to do that in advance of revision (although maybe I am wrong here).

If it is unfilled and you are having these issues, you are describing symtoms of a slip. In some casees, a slip can eventually cut off your ability to even drink Water.

If it were me, I would be talking to the surgeon. I am not sure how long you have had the band, but this sounds like a significant change from your "normal" and with the band that pretty much always signals trouble... in my experience.

Than you guys for replying. Glad that your doing well alriz0204 ready to be in your shoes!!!

CowgirlJane I have had my band for three going on 4 years in feb but I wont make 4. I have not had a fill since early 2011. I was 223 but have gained 18 pounds. Man I was hoping it was not a slip but I have been coughing really bad which a read on OH is also a symptom of slip, but It just happened recently in about a week or week and half ago. I didnt know I had to get unfilled before surgery but I guess I will do that with a doc at home instead of going all the way to Houston to do it (not waisting my gas) Thank you for your help I really appreciated and yes this is not normal at all for me usually im okay but things are starting to get stuck more easy, I drink fine, however I have not even had the appetite to eat because any and everything makes me want to throw up, but I have to eat something so thats the only reason I do. Thank you guys so much!!!

Grateful B.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
