Insurance & Aftercare or Fills

Recommended Posts

This may be a dumb question, but is there anyway to get your insurance to pay for your fills if they want cover the procedure? I am planning on having my surgery in MX and if something happens to me once I come back to the states my insurance should cover it, correct?

Thanks

That's an excellent question. I wished I knew. Each fill I shell out 150.00 and that's after the surgery fee in Mexico. I just got cut off on the phone with bCBS Anthem. I just curiously ask them since they woudn't pay for my surgery and I pay them 700.00 per month, would they reimburse me any. Hell, she laughed so hard I thought she was doing drugs. Bitch. I could have done without that.

Oh, my gosh!!! I can't believe she laughed @ you. That is soooo not funny. I am trying to come out the best way possible (financially). I guess I will try to call UHC today or tomorrow and see what they say. Hopefully they won't laugh @ me. When I have called them in the past each person would give me a different answer or the run around.

I guess they would have no choice, but to pay if you were hospitalized. Hopefully nothing will happen, but I like to know my options.

Thanks for replying!!:)

I was told that if your insurance covered your surgery they will cover the fills as well and visa versa.

I pay 300 dollars a fill. I just had my 4th fill, this is getting expensive.

The only person that I have found here charges $250 for the fluro, the hospital charges $325, and there could be a possible reading fee of $86. So the totals anywhere from $575-$661. That sounds ridiculous to me.

I am going to keep looking. It would be cheaper to fly back to Tijuana than pay that.

I was just reading through, and found your thread. WOW! I feel very fortunate!

My Dr. includes the first year of fills in what he bills the insurance company (or in the amount charged to the people who are "self pay"). After that he offers a "package deal" for the fills, you can pay as you go or buy a year's worth. His theory is that if we are going to take the time and effort to make this work, he isn't going to throw a potential road block (like not being able to afford fills) in our way to success.

Thanks for sharing!

I am going to be banded in Tijuana, but I need a doctor here for fills and aftercare. The surgeon in Tijuana does include fills and the fluro is a little extra (maybe $40). I just didn't want to have to fly back and forth for fills...But w/the price I was quoted and the difficulty in finding a doctor to do the fills, I might not have much of a choice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
