Unable To Eat Veggies With Protein

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months out and cannot reliably eat more than a bite or two past 2-3 oz of Protein.

While I am taking many supplements, it would be nice to eat veggies again. They giving me throwing up, stuck and other related feelings. I would like to continue to consume 2-3 oz of Protein a meal to keep energy up and keep losing weight.

I typically have trouble with brocolli and string green Beans. Regular green Beans are OK if mushy enough. Have not tried salad yet.

Thanks for inputs.

My NUT told me to try eating 2 bites of Protein to 1 bite of veggies. It has worked well for me. You can always get extra protein in a shake.< /p>

Thanks, good idea. My NUT always says to finish the protein first and then eat vegetables if there is room. I typically only try and eat veggies for one meal a day, at dinner time.

I like celery with Peanut Butter, chicken salad with a little bit of celery, and onions, or tuna on letcus. I also try to make Soups or different things that i can incorporate vegetables or fruits into my meals. scrambled egg with added veggies, Protein Shake made with frozen fruit or vegetable.

You can have celery!!!??? I was told never again!

I'm jealous! You don't have issues with it! I was told our tummies can't break down the strings!

I didn't know we had trouble with stringy veggies. That could explain the trouble I am having with string Beans.

I haven't had corn, celery, and some I can't even remember. But my string Beans I way overcook to get them very mushy-

But yeah- I was told no celery- ever- and no corn for a long time. I think I'm okay with that tho. Celery I do miss!!!!

I keep hearing people say they have a sleeve of steel - apparently that is me. No one told me not to eat celery. In fact, I was told that was for lap banders. But I was told it might take a bit of time to tolerate stringy foods and to be patient. I was eating celery by two months, no problem. Everyone is different, our docs all seem to have different advice...

I am almost 6 weeks out and there isn't anything I cannot eat as of yet... I had my first salad last Saturday and it was GOOD... I eat a lot of shrimp because it is high in Protein. I guess I have been lucky... I think the bottom line to whatever it is that you are eating is CHEWING, SPEED, and SPICE.... Not enough chewing and it hurts. Eat too fast and it hurts. Eat anything too spicy and you will suffer for it, at least this early anyway...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
