Strangefruit 179 Posted October 29, 2012 Everyone tells me how brilliant he is... And that bedside manner is not important. He is the only doc covered by my insurance plan, but honestly he is a bit of a jerk. I have my one week post op tomorrow ... and while I am looking forward to getting the drainage tube out, I am dreading the appt... And knowing I will have follow ups with this guy for at least a year... I realize how lucky I am that he IS a good doctor and that my insurance covered the surgery... But I do NOT like this guy one bit... 1 Soon2bsexi reacted to this

Strangefruit 179 Posted October 29, 2012 LOL... He is not actually Dr. House, just has a similar bedside manner...brusque, rude, condescending. Not easy to have a conversation with... 1 abetterme4.2 reacted to this

twoolley 141 Posted October 29, 2012 Sorry to hear you have such a unlikable surgeon. My surgeon is a great guy & really nice which makes him easy to talk to and ask questions. My only advice is that dispite his demeanor if you have questions, ask them. Don't be afraid to be abrupt to get the answers you need. And I'll be crossing my fingers that he's not a drug addict that orders 400 unnecessary tests like the one on TV does! (I hate that show btw)
delta_girl 931 Posted October 29, 2012 My doctor is similar, though not quite as extreme. He is very direct, all business, hard core, shut up and listen, no play, no excuses, no rationales, get your hiney in gear, serious. It really works for me. If he were kinder, softer, and more congenial, I might subconsciously find ways to work around or discuss (argue) too many points. I respect him and feel more accountable. He isn't my parent or my friend, he is my doctor and surgeon and his professional practice and reputation are very important to him. I know he wants me to have the best possible results. We both benefit that way. I suppose that different approaches work for different patients. I prefer a kick in the britches to an empathetic hug.
