Hi guys! I need a little advice please...

I'm about 12 days post-op now and for the most part everything's been fine and I've been feeling well. Last Wednesday I started with what felt like a side ache (or side stitch?), and it has yet to going away. In fact it's developed into a pain, not from any of the incisions, but rather on my left side directly below my ribcage (stomach area I suppose!)

That pain isn't so bad, but it also is present in my back in almost the exact same spot. My back is quite a bit more painful, especially while I'm sitting. I can always feel it, but it feels better while I'm laying down. It's bearable when I'm standing, but I can only sit for short amounts of time because it gets so uncomfortable. It almost feels muscular, but because it's in the same spot in front and back I'm starting to wonder what's going on.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

BTW I had some gas pains post op and this is very different feeling than that.

Have you tried using a heating pad? I had a lot of pain both in my back area and in the muscle around where my port is. The heating pad helped a lot. By the way, where is your port? The pain your feeling could be related to it because it is sewn into muscle and is generally the area where people are most uncomfortable following surgery.

I had something similar but just by my shoulder. And sometimes that pain came back when I ate and had that fullness sensation. So everytime I was full, I had that pain. It could be gas. Then after a while that sensation was felt less and less until it disappeared by itself. Usually after any surgery air comes inside the body and searches a way out. I might be guessing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
