Protein Shakes After Surgery...low Or High Calorie?

Recommended Posts

I'm a little confused about the Protein powder/shakes for after surgery. I see one of the more common ones is Unjury, which is very low in calories. Since from my understanding I will be only able to (or only want to because of lack of appetite) consume a teaspoon or two at a time and am only getting a few teaspoons a day (? correct)...shouldn't I need something that contains higher calories to keep me from becoming weak/fatigued until I'm able to eat actual food?

It's a balancing act. you just don't want to use one with too much sugar or too many carbs.

You might want to start off with the low-cal and see how much you get in. If you need more Protein or calories to get to your goals you can always switch it up.

Now I drink straight Protein. Once you get a few months out you will probably be looking for the most protein with the last calories and carbs.

Good luck.

Thank you. I kind of figured I would probably need to adjust it as I went along. When you say you drink straight Protein are you referring to the http://www.newwhey.com/ type drinks? That's one of the one's I recently purchased for after surgery. My surgery is Nov. 2nd.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
