Has Anyone Ever Driven To Mexicali For Dr Aceves?

Recommended Posts

I am 9 weeks post-op from Dr. Aceves, and I have decided to go back to Mexicali for my three month check-up. I have heard second and third hand that it is not good to take a car (I will be in a rental car) to Mexico. Has anyone had bad experiences driving across the border to see Dr. Aceves??

Gabby, Dr. Aceves's follow person, said we could also park in Calexico and walk over the border and they would pick us up and bring us back to the border where we would walk back accross. Has anyone done this option?

My concern is the car getting stolen.....That is what I have heard happens alot. Is this a legitimate concern??

Not specifically for Dr visits, but I have parked my car several times at the border and walked across. It's DEFINITELY protected with more law enforcement there than anywhere else. :) I am not stating they watch your vehicle like a hawk, only that it is a huge deterrent.

Hope this helps.

Mexico is a scary place for all , even the ones that work over here and go home to visit....I'd be more worried about being robbed and shot. I live in South Texas and never go over anymore. We used to drive and leave the car in the U.S. and then walk over staying right there to shop. I heard it is very dangerous to go further into Mexico. I would think it much cheaper and safer to find a Dr. here if you need that check up.

I do not have insurance to cover the follow-up here. I was told that it would cost me about $2000 for the bloodwork and the upper GI locally. Sooo....my wife and I are going to San Diego for a 4 day vacation and going to do my follow-up with Dr Aceves for $150. I basically surmised that if I was going to spend $2000, I was going to have a nice little vacation.

I think I would be more worried about leaving a car in Calexico than Mexicali. The parking lot at Almater looked pretty secure with plenty of CA license plates...thats where I did most of my walking. But that being said I haven't driven there just took their shuttle from San Diego. I didn't go back for my follow up there but I do know that Gaby also said they would pick up and shuttle for the follow up just like for surgery. Not sure what and if they charge for that.

You had better check with the rental car company most of them will not allow you to drive into Mexico with their car and your car insurance is not valid in Mexico so you really need to check into that first

Wow..thats quite a chunk for the upper GI. I had one a few days ago and never realized how much they were. Good luck !

Hi! I'm going back to Mexicali for my checkup as well. I recommend you park in Calexico (US) side, walk across, then catch a can to Almater. Most car rental agencies will not allow you to take the vehicles across without special Mexican insurance.

Any of the options is fine parking in Calexico or in Almater since their parking has security and is really close to the border, really like 5 min.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
