Am I Half Way To A Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

So I have finished 4 of the 6 required visits by Kaiser. I will have a NUT appt in Nov then Dec and my paperwork should then go to the board for approval. I understand then will meet with the surgeon...What do I have to go through with the surgeion before I get a surgery date. Oh, my Kaiser is in Virginia.

you have to have your pre op appointment. they give you tons of paperwork your pre op diet and tons of sample of calcium chews, Iron supplements and Vitamins and this is when you get your surgery date.

Have u not seen the surgeon yet?? You can always call your center and usually at the informational meeting they outline everything you are required to do. I had 6 months of nut appointments, pulmonary, cardiac, and psychology clearance. Also 2 info meetings, pcp referral and clearance I was approved. My surgeon didn't require anything additional (except I had to quit smoking)

The NUT told me after my 6 visits and I get approved my the "committee" then I would get my approval/referral to see the surgeon and I would have to meet the surgeons requirements. I tried calling the surgeons office and basically was told that I need to get my approval from Kaiser first.....all I want is an understanding of the process...I was hoping to be able to get sleeved in Feb/Mar timeframe.

Oh wow I'm sorry they don't seem too helpful. I started my journey with an informational meeting on all 3 surgeries. Then made an appointment with my surgeon and his nurses gave me a folder of all insurance requirements and what I had to do. Once they were done I was submitted to insurance and approved. I met with my surgeon two times before pre op just to clarify what surgery I wanted. My surgeon didn't ask for anything else. He would not give me a pre op appointment or surgery date until I was approved by insurance. I would suggest trying to attend a seminar (they should be twice a month through your center. If they are a bariatric center this should def. Be something they offer. Good luck keep me posted!! Also there should be a website of ur hospital that offers the meetings or displays when they are :)

With Kaiser insurance, my pcp gave me a referral to the bariatric program and then I have to go through 6 months of Kaiser's classes and NUT visits before I get final approval for the surgery then I get the referral to the surgeon. I was told that I had to finish the 6 month program before I could attend the surgeon's seminar. I guess I'm getting impatient here and want to get to the sleeved part...lol

I hear you I started my journey in Feb and getting sleeved in 8 days I can't believe it!!! Trust me it will go by soooooo fast.

Your office seems a little backwards from what I've read anyone should be allowed to attend a meeting no matter where u are in the process.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
