Hello Larry,

First of all calm down, you didn't get fat overnight and with some planning you can get the weight off. Are you considering the band, if so a very wise decision. I have had the band for 3 months on the 10th and have lost 50 pounds. Heavier people loose even faster. Just read, read, read, on here and ask questions. We're all here to help you.

Welcome once again.

Larry I had the band surgery, 7 weeks ago and I have lost 30 lbs+, I tried all sorts of diets and pills and nothing worked. Take one day at a time and just give yourself small goals. Everything will fall in place, consider the band or the gastric bypass, whichever one you feel more comfortable with. It's your choice. Good luck in whatever you decide and remember we are all here to help you along the way. Take care.

Larry, I think by looking into ways to lose, you are on the right track. I, too, want to be a big fat loser, and with the help of the lap band surgery I plan to have, I know I will be. It will be so freeing!!!

Hi Larry,

I understand your pain, truly I do. You have found a wonderful place where everyone understands and wants to help you. My first question is, have you explored all your options? What types of diet programs have you tried in the past? How much success have you had with them? If you are considering the lapband, I strongly suggest that you start by going to inamed's website at www.lapband.com and click on their link to find a free seminar in your area. They are the best place to start in your research of the lapband. Next, spend as much time reading as much information as you can about the band. Again, inamed's site is a great place, they will provide you with great material at the seminar, and of course, this website has plenty of wonderful information available to you as well. Read the stickies at the top of all the forums as they have information that I am sure you will find very valuable. And, of course, do not be afraid to ask us lots of questions, that is what we are here for.

I wish you the best of luck.

Larry, I had the lapband surgery over a year ago and have lost 95 pounds. Best thing I ever did for myself. It will take a while for your body to bounce back but the time invested is well worth it.

Larry, try to think positive. Most things can be done with a positive attitude. Once you make up your mind as to the route you want to take to "grow" a smaller "you" then set a short term goal achieve it and continue on. It works!!

Good Luck, you CAN do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
