Going To The Toilet...?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm 18 days out and not been to the toilet (poo) for over a week and when I last went it was just let yellow lumpy Water.

Whats the 'norm' for going?

I've been drinking orange juice... even had a small portion of bran soaked in lots of milk yesterday, but still no result...

I'm puting on weight too!!! :(

I'm 4 months out and I feel lucky if I go any where from 1 1/2 to 2 wks. Maybe it's because there's less intake. I've been but on stuff to help but nothing changes.

I was so constipated in week 4 I didn't go for 8 days. I had so much pressure I couldn't even sit down. I went to my Dr. and the first thing she did was an x-ray to make sure there were no obstructions...which there was not thank goodness but I was still in extreme pain. I ended up taking lactulose and Senna (4 pills) for 3 days straight and they finally worked. I will never ever get like that again because now if I miss a day the next day I take 2 Senna and they work. Don't let yourself go too long.....try to get a handle on it before it gets so bad.

same having to take something everyday. As far as color and form I am not the same, but dont worry unless black and tar looking. Protein Shakes can make it weird looking. Don't go to long u don't want to get a blockage.

Miralax once a week and stool softeners every day finally helped me. I'm 2 months out and just started to get regular. coffee after exercise helps me too.

So can I ask, are you drinking regular coffee?

Does regular coffee make going easier then?

The thing is, after surgery we eat almost no Fiber for a while. Makes it hard to go. If you can eat prunes that is the most natural way i can think of to resolve it post sleeve. From what I've read, miralax is the preferred stool softener to take. Be careful with products like exlax because it will dehydrate you. Eventually you will be able to eat more high fiber foods.

Can you give me an idea of your daily diet?

How much orange juice are you drinking?

18 days, have you been cleared for food? Most people are on full liquids at this point.

I take some sugar-free fiber chewables every few days to keep things moving.

I had HORRIBLE Constipation for the first four months. I used miralax, Fiber supplements, enemas, even went for colonics. Ended up in the ER with constipation.

I now take two fiber gummies every day and 800 mg of magnesium oxide. Magnesium is at any grocery or drug store with all the other Vitamins etc. This is the only thing that has worked for me with no cramping and no problems. Thank goodness.

I've been taking two fibre gummies a day too - will have to look into the magnesium oxide though - thank you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
