mgrn13 6 Posted October 28, 2012 Any advice for helping me be mentally ready for drastic eating changes coming in my future??
DayByDay 123 Posted October 28, 2012 I think it is about being mindful on what you eat and how you eat. My surgery wont be until February. So I started concentrating on what I eat now. Focus on good lean Protein. No snacking. Limit my sugar intake. Small meals every 3-4 hours. Keeping calories low. Taking Vitamins. I also monitor my self-talk, meaning that when I go out to eat, I don't tell myself, "just this one last time, I'll have (insert a high fat or high calorie food)." Just need to get better at Water consumption and exercise. Hopefully by the time I have my surgery my habits will be in place. As a bonus I am loosing weight. But for me it is always about being mindful of everything I put in my mouth. Good luck.
Butterthebean 8,146 Posted October 28, 2012 I can only say what has worked for me. Educate yourself on nutrition. Say goodbye to starches. They are the worst thing you can eat. Start drinking a Protein shake a day now. It can be an acquired taste for many people. Start exercising now. Find something (preferably more than one thing) you enjoy doing. If it's a chore you won't keep doing it. Give up your other addictions now...caffeine, nicotine...whatever. Learn to look at food as fuel, not enjoyment. You should control the food you eat, not the other way around. Eat 5 small meals a day. Measure your portions and eat on a schedule. Don't let yourself get real hungry. That's when most people lose control. That's why eating on a schedule is so important. By that same token, you never want to feel full either. Just satisfied. Always have a plan for your next meal. Otherwise, if you get hungry you'll eat anything (the wrong thing usually).
