Empty Stomach Vs Real Hunger

Someone recently stated here just because their stomach was empty did not mean it was time to eat or that they were really hungry. Note to self.... Hello! Spent most of my life full or looking for next fill. So how does on distinguish between hunger and just being empty? Taking a ppi has helped.
