New Girl, My Story

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!!

Im new to vs talk so still trying to get the hang of how everything works.

Here is my story: I'm 24 and I live in Waco, TX

I've been overweight since I was little and slowly have been packing on the lbs. :(

Im not confident with my body and it's time for a change. I've done all the fad diets, WW, Phentermine, weigh in with "diet" doctors & the gym religiously for years straight. I lost weight with Phetermine, but once i stopped taking it i immediately gained all of my weight back. I'm done with all these attempts at losing weight it's time to GET SERIOUS.

I tried to get approved for lapband 1 or 2 years ago but didnt weigh enough for my insurance to cover it and i didnt have any co-morbidities. So i pretty much gave up after a year or so and 2 ectopic pregnancies and a lot of weight gain later i decided to give it another try. This time though i did my research and decided that lapband wasn't for me... I really looked into all the other options and came up with VSG.

I went back into Dr. Kim's office (colleyville, tx) and weighed in and was immediately qualified to schedule my 6 months of weigh in's and NUT appointments!!!

I have finished all of my 6 monthly weigh ins and NUT appointments. Dr. Kim's office sent off all my info to the insurance company either last thursday or friday.... and i am so anxious to hear back I am a little nervous because i wasn't so great on my 6 months of eating healthy. I did gain a few lbs and am not sure how picky my insurance company is... i know i know i should have been eating better and taking this more seriously, but life happens and all the stress that comes along with it. I just dont want to get denied because this is something that I really want. I want to be happier and healthier.

Also, how long does it take to get approved? My surgeons office said 2-4 weeks which is long to wait and wonder but i've heard of other people finding out in 5 days.????

Does anyone have NALC insurance? a part of CIGNA (FEDS) and if so how hard/easy was it to get approved?

Tell me your stories.

Krysti

I hope your approval comes quickly. I have BCBS not Cigna, so I can't help. I was able to find out in less than a week, I believe.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
