Holly5.3 423 Posted October 28, 2012 I've read through my nut. documents and I can't find anything about why whey Protein is the preferred protein for Bariatric surgery. Now there's "pea protein" (Dr. Oz show). Does different protein react differently (like fats) or can they be interchanged as long as grams are met? (After 3 weeks Pre-op and now 2 post, the taste of whey is starting to get to me!) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Lissa 2,631 Posted October 28, 2012 whey Protein is a better, more easily absorbed source of Protein for human bodies than any other source of protein. To be fair, I should add that I've never heard of pea protein until your post. Many of the Protein Shots, etc, claim to have whey protein in them, but when you look further they include collagen as a protein source. Collagen based Proteins are NOT available to our bodies like whey or soy Proteins are. I think it was OTR Sleever who posted a link to some research about what proteins are most easily absorbed by our bodies and whey came out MILES ahead of any other protein source, including soy. Once you're back on solids, it will be much easier to get protein from other sources, but it's worth your while to stick to "good" protein right now. Good luck on your journey!!
