I cannot get rid of the hiccups, non stop since I woke up in Recovery. My Dr. gave me some pills but they haven't done anything and its the weekend. Anyone else have this problem and how did you solve it?

Aww man I feel for you. My stomach muscles were so very sore after surgery, that has got to totally suck.

This my work for you, I saw it on "The Doctors". The worst that can happen is you'll throw up. Try taking a spoon full of regular granulated sugar, the trick is to swallow it before it dissolves. It's not fun, but I swear it works.

The first time they got me up to walk after surgery I got the hiccups almost immediately. Other than drinking that barium stuff, that was the worst part of my recovery. It's all that gas they pump into you.

Hiccups are just your diaphragm spasming. You could try a heating pad on the upper abdomen, it might relax. And keep walking.

Before surgery, this was my absolute favorite technique. It's very effective. But the OP is 5 days post op. This may not be a good idea. I don't know. It might not be a problem.

Edit: where did I get that the OP was 5 days post op? I was having a brain fart.

I get some of the post op folks confused. There are so many post op people around here you'd think this was a recovery ward.

I always use a paper towel to get rid of my hiccups. Sounds weird but it's worked for everyone I've made try it. Put a regular paper towel over a glass of Water. Start drinking the water through the paper towel. Keep sipping until your hiccups stop. For me it's usually only 2 or 3 sips

I get hiccups every time I eat or drink but they go away after a couple of minutes. I am almost 3 months out and it still happens. I hope your hiccups go away soon. When I asked my doc he did not give me an answer to why I get them.
