October 17Th'ers.. Where Are Ya?

Recommended Posts

I'm still exhausted. Even on my good days' date=' if i do something like go shopping for a couple hours, i'm pooped the rest of the day! I think it's still a little surgery aftermath and also hard because we aren't really having food yet, so we just don't feel our old selves. This is my first week back to work and it's killing me already! And i have a desk job![/quote']

Glad to know I'm not the only one... altho I must admit I am feeling much better 2day and each day ... I hope it is the same for u .... :D

What brand of unflavored Protein do you use? Is it really unflavored? I tried again this morning drinking my Protein Shake and cant do it' date=' i gag everytime. I have spent so much on so many different brands and i cant drink any of them.

Also, do you think not getting enough protein will slow my weight loss? I am only losing about 2 lbs a week since my surgery. It seems like everyone else is losing substantial amounts.[/quote']

I bought Isopure and I love it!

:-( I try to just have something with Protein every 2-3 hours.

So is everyone on the FB page now? Too bad, i like the privacy of coming here as opposed to everyone seeing my posts FB style :-(

It is funny how time makes such a difference. Feeling overall pretty back to normal except for food quantity and that i've been on a two week weight loss stall. Haven't dropped a pound! Bizarre!

I 2 feel almost back to normal still on protien shakes with minimal food .. I think I'm kinda scared to eat when I'm out because it comes up and I feel like everyone watches me eat... ughhhh I too have stalled out at 35 lbs. How much have u lost up to this point?

I too, have been in a stall, I'm so bummed. The shakes are making me constipated. I focus on what I do eat has Protein, but still fall short of the recommended 80+ grams a day. It takes so long to eat a quarter cup of any meal that I end up eating cold food. I live in a house with 4 men, if I don't grab that little bit when do, its gone, not that they are uncaring, it just happens. I know there are things I could do differently, but to be honest, I feel overwhelmed. Starting back to work has been a challenge, there is no way i can go to my job and not lift 15+ lbs, and I'm getting help as much as I can. It's just not possible. If I take sick leave, I don't bring home as much money as I would if I worked, because i get paid mileage ( which can be 300+ a pay check, so no small potatoes in my book). I need to put on my big girl panties and keep on keeping on, hopefully the small chances I can make will help everything catch up.

I don't trust FB enough that they'll keep closed things closed. They are notorious for doing behind the scenes updates that opens everything up again and all of a sudden people find their privacy violated!

You've lost 35 since surgery? Wow, i'm really behind it seems. Since surgery i've lost maybe 20. But i did have a long stall, then seemed to be up 6lbs (how is that possible - i track my drinks/food, and am around 700 cals a day). So i guess i just hold on for the ride, and hope it picks up a little to make up for lost time LOL

I am still on here. For one thing, have no clue how to join the Facebook link. Every time I click on the link, I am not where I am supposed to be. Anyway, I like coming here for all of the vertical sleeve talk!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
