I was also sleeved on 10/23. I agree, the first two days were he'll. pain for me wasn't that bad, but I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open until Thursday. I was released from hospital 10/26 rather than the day before because my drain was putting out so much blood/fluid. Never really had gas pains but so much gurgling which is just annoying. Was sent home with a bunch of pill prescriptions and was wondering if I can take them but I assume if the dr prescribed them it will be ok. Now just trying to drink fluids I feel pretty good still pain in the belly area at the larger incision site and hard to get out of bed with out help. But everyday is just a bit better for me.

Quite often after I take a sip to drink I get this pressure like pain in my chest like between my boobs for just a few seconds. I don't think that my sip is too big but.... What is this pain. I never before had reflux or heartburn prior to this so I don't know what that feels like.

I think that pain may be air. It's almost impossible to sip without getting some air. From my understanding, due to swelling, the opening to the stomach is smaller than the esophagus, and may account for the pain. I had that in the beginning as well. I can't remember when it went away, maybe by 5 or 6 weeks.

I was uncomfortable too but by the end of week three it was gone. The first week, week and a half are the most difficult. It will get easier. Just take one day at a time. I would do it over again. The discomfort is a small price to pay for a lifetime of health and happiness.

I was also sleeved on 10/23 & was experiencing the same pain in chest after sipping until yesterday. Then something clicked & I can swallow pain free now. Mind you, they are still small sips...but I'll take it! :)

As far as pain, I'm still dealing with gas pain & it was way worse than incision pain. I COULD NOT stay awake for anything the entire day of surgery. It's gradually gotten better. I'm sleepy but not exhausted. And I've had plenty of energy to run errands & stay active all week.

Best of luck to you all!!

I was given 3 prescription in pill form. One is protonix for heart burn I guess, one is for nausea, and one more I forget I don't have them next to me at the moment. My question is are we allowed to take them now? I assume since the dr prescribed them that I should be taking it. What medicines were u given at discharge from hospital?

I would say yes, if it was your surgeon who prescribed it, you should be fine. My surgeon gave me protonix also. He suggested taking it first thing in the morning. He also gave me liquid loratab for pain. He said liquid form absorbs better for sleevers. And lastly, phenergran for nausea. It is compounded for wrist application for same reason. I've been told not to take anything else except for Zyrtec OTC for 2 wks post op. and from what I understand, the rule of thumb is no pill bigger than an m&m.

I take the protonix regularly. Loratab as needed. Haven't needed the phenergran.

Oh and gas x strips that dissolve on tongue. They help a lot too. Taken every 4 hrs as needed.

I never had pain like reflux either, but for my first week check up the dr prescribed nexium. No more pain. I guess it was reflux after all. When I ran out of pills in two weeks the pain was gone.

I was sleeved on the 18th I'm so tired as of yesterday. I lost 15 Pds this week. I'm having a hard time getting in my Protein. Almost meeting my Water goals though. This is harder then I imagined. No pain tow speak of or nausea or vomiting. Some spasms in my belly but not to bad. My biggest issue right now is the fatigue!

I was also given caraface a liquid which lines the stomache. So all these medicines are something we have to stay on forever? Or just during healing or if there is a flare up with reflux/heartburn. I was also given Tylenol with codeine in liquid but it tastes so bad and my pain is not bad except when getting in and out of bed.

No we only have to take it as we heal. For instance, my protonix is a 30 day supply & my surgeon said after I'm done with it, I won't likely need it anymore. Caraface is just to coat your belly from all the meds since we aren't eating yet.

Oh my I was tired for the first two and a half days while in hospital I couldn't keep my eyes open. I am on just a clear liquid diet now so getting no Protein. As for Water today my first full day at home I can't seem to get it in. So far only about 5 oz. I never had nausea or vomiting while in hospital but was given a pill to take in case that I am at home. At hospital was given nausea med in my IV .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
