Has Anyone Gone Through The Phase Of Eating Food And Spitting It Out?

Recommended Posts

I did this a few times during my second week, but I felt like I was inviting myself to go down a slippery slope. A few days after I chewed and spit out some crackers, I was eating some Cheetoes (chewing and chewing until they were basically liquified). Once you start giving yourself permission to do just a little, or almost (but not quite...), then where is the next fence or barrier to other things? These are just my thoughts for myself on it and not a judgement on someone else. I know that this is the type of thing that got me to the point where I sought out a surgical intervention.

I'm amazed and relieved to know being two weeks post op that I'm not the only 1 that has done it!!! I did it with Doritos and I didn't feel bad after doing it either and for those who say its a disorder my response is....whatever...I had a moment and it happened only once I'm sure it will happen again but I see nothing wrong with it as long it's not something that's being done on the regular....I've lost a total of 40lbs so far and my surgery date was October 16 and emergency surgery October 19 and feeling really Good!!! Have a great day everybody!!!

I dont feel I have an eating disorder either. I assume it could be but I needed to fight a craving! Congrats on the weight loss...I had surgery on the 19th and i am down 20 lbs...how did you loose 40!?

I just want to thank you for being brave enough to post this. During the 2nd week post op I caved and chewed on food then spit it out. I knew that the head hunger was getting the best of me and that it would pass. I thought I was the only one.

I hope I didn't offend anyone with term eating disorder. For me, not eating appropriate food, eating too much or too little= dis. order. I'm not eating orderly, so I'm "dissing" the orders (based on sound nutrition for a lean and healthy body). a 5'5" woman weighing 278 pounds, who should weigh 138, does not follow "orders", she follows her addiction to fat, carbs, and sugar. Maybe its because I'm an "older middle-aged" woman and have gone through every program imaginable since I was 16 and finally realize it wasnt the diet that failed me, it was me failing me.

I licked Doritos during my 2nd week post op but didn't chew them. I needed the taste of something that wasn't a Protein shake.

Glad to know there are fellow Dorito lickers out there! I have so been there done that!

I am so glad to read that I am not the only one! Fortunately the feeling passed relatively quickly, and hasn't returned since. I am reading that some are saying this is a symptom of an eating disorder, but I think we should recognize that going weeks without eating any solid food is not normal either! We are human, and humans eat, humans chew, and it is ok to miss that sensation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
