To fill or not to fill???

Recommended Posts

Okay this may seem like a silly little question but I had my 2nd fill on Thursday (Oct. 5th). Since that fill I have felt every little thing go through my pouch and it hurts. food is not neccessarily getting stuck, it's still going through but it hurts.

I am wondering if I may need more fill so that the food stays in the pouch and digests a bit before leaving. I have not PB'd.

Hi - when you say it hurts, is it intense pain, or more "discomfort"? If it's intense pain, then please call your doctor. If it's discomfort/mild pain, then that sounds like what I get when I eat dry, solid food, e.g. roast chicken, ever since I had my last fill about a month ago. When I swallow, it feels like the food is rubbing on tissue as it passes through the narrow opening of the lap band. It feels like my tissues are being a little irritated. It's gotten less over the past few weeks.

I've just assumed this is normal, but never asked...

It's more discomfort than anything. It's not horrid paid. Only when the food gets stuck for any amount of time. But it is mainly with dry food. I just started on this fill process and had planned on getting another because I can still eat more than they recommend....

I just had my first fill 10/6, and can say that if I eat one more little tiny thing than the soft stop tells me to (my eyes are bigger than my stomach - LOL) I get that feeling...also - if I eat just about anything beef...get that flaming golfball from hell in the middle of my breastbone...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
