tightness in my throat when I swallow...

Recommended Posts

OK, I hope I am not being a hypochondriac here....

I have been on vacation for the last week. I am 5 weeks out from surgery. My Dr. specifically recommended that I not get a fill right before going on vacation, so I didn't.

I have not be eating "perfectly" per say, but I have been chewing and chewing, Proteins first, then veggies then carbs, 6 oz at a time. Every now and then, I would graze on a nibble when I was not hungry, but nothing huge. I did have 1 soda there and one when we got back (not flat). I had wine, no beer, no throwing up.

For two days now, everytime I swallow I feel like I have tightness or something stuck in my throat.

I will call my Dr. first thing in the morning... I was just wondering what any of you guys think?

:cry:paranoid

faybie,

I know exactly what you mean. I have been having that tightness when I swallow for a week or so. Sometimes I don't notice it, but most of the time, I feel it. It's not uncomfortable, just annoying. I haven't called my doctor as yet though.

Does anyone else experience this?

Teresa

I have the same thing. I believe this is caused from acid reflux. It feels like a lump in your throat, very uncomfortable. I have been to the ear, nose and throat doctor and he found nothing wrong. I've also had an endoscopy, which was negative. So they determined it was reflux.

Hope this helps

Well, here is my thought. I work in physical rehab with speech therapists. I told them that since the surgery I have had trouble swallowing my pills, that they seem to get stuck in my throat. They said that they read some research that when part of that system is constricted (like we are with the band) the rest feels constricted. They recommend that I should bring my chin down to my chest in a "chin tuck" to make things go down more easily.

I did'nt feel the tightness untile my last fill. I think that for some ppl. the more fills you have the slower you have to eat.

Hey guys, I didn't realize you all had responded to my post. =)

I did go to the Dr. and the surgery center conducted a Barium swallow. There was absolutely nothing wrong. No slippage, no stretching, nothing actually "stuck", no damage, etc. They said that it has to be reflux and to take Maalox.

I read that if it persists, I should bring it up to my surgeon because reflux has caused ulcers in bandsters where they had to get the band removed.

My "stuckage" went on for about a week and I haven't had any problems since. When I was having my episode, it was so uncomfortable to sleep that I had to sleep propped up on my pillows.

I hope you all are feeling better soon too!

I just had my first fill and had the same experiences.... I also had trouble sleeping without choking and ended up sleeping in a chair for 4-5 days afterwards. Drinking enough Water became my biggest problem but it has eased quite a bit, and basically I figure that slowing down my ability to eat is what I paid for!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
