My 4 bites are usually finished before its cold and the food I now eat it is unappetizing to any normal person. My high fibre Protein and eggwhite pancakes makes my kids cringe!

I just wish I didnt feel like eating as I always do even though food still doesnt taste the same and I am still looking for that "something nice" almost 8 months later.

A couple years before I was sleeved I had chemotherapy for prostate cancer. One of the side effects was a temporary loss of my sense of taste. With that I lost the joy of eating but I still had a big hunger.

Now I have much less hunger but I have the joy of eating. Even though it's just a few bites, I rejoice in the taste. Plus I have a healthy, slim body to fuel with the food.

And.... I am alive.

I like now better.

I feel ya...eating has become a chore now vs a pleasure as it once was. If eating wasn't a requirement of existence I would probably just stop all together. My previously fav foods now have no taste or taste nasty to me. I still get head hunger, go to eat what I crave and then want to puke cuz it doesn't taste good anymore. I'm only 9 weeks out though so we'll see if I ever get back to some semblance of normal somewhere down the road.

I have really been wondering about this. I'm only 5 weeks out, but I've been on vacation for a week and have been eating in a lot of restaurants; Soup, fresh grilled fish, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. I almost dread meal time. Eating is not. "fun " anymore. It is more of a chore. Drinking is fine and no big deal. This may sound sick, but I hope it lasts. I'm tired of my life being ruled by food.< /p>

I know the feeling, I dread mealtime to. I'm 4 months out and if I never ate another bite of food it would be ok with me, it's way to much work! But with that said, I could not be ant happier with my results, 87 lbs lost and counting, sounds like a great trade off to me, the taste of food for all this darn fat!

food v. Feeling Fantastic. Hmmmmmm I know I used to think good tasting food made me feel fantastic to eat, but when the food was no longer in my mouth being tasted-I just hated myself! The momentary, dare I say "ecstasy", felt while consuming is a mind F---! Afterwards the self hatred and negativity canceled all those warm fuzzy feelings i had when eating.

It sounds to me like you are looking for your old life back. The days of wendy's burgers and fries should be over. Start working your sleeve and looking at new things to do instead of focusing on food: new hobbies, exercise, friendships. You got this surgery to help you so please work it for all that it is intended. Best wishes to you.

Are you allowed to have a cheeseburger at this stage? I guess I was thinking you were 4 or 5 weeks out....bread is a nasty no no early on as it puffs up in your tummy.

I believe though you've said that your program allows potatoes at this point? (Mine does). What about making up some lovely fried potatoes at home, or shoe string but make them a bit healthier again by cooking them at home? Add some sour cream and butter, just a bit, given you aren't going to eat a bunch anyhoo and indulge in that major treat while still being sort of on program?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
